About FurFright, Inc.
FurFright, Inc. is a non-profit corporation that was formed after a successful single-day fund-raising event in the fall of 2003. Its purpose is to raise funds to help other non-profit charities who focus their efforts on environmental, wildlife and animal welfare causes. Our major fundraising event is held once a year and includes a charity auction and raffle, from which all proceeds go to benefit our selected charitable organizations. We strive to support two charities in a single year, one local to New England and another serving the national or global community. The charities we have supported are:
2003: Animal Haven (a local no-kill rescue shelter located in North Haven, CT) and Vital Ground (an organization focused on purchasing land which will serve as habitat for grizzlies and other wildlife).
2004: CATALES (a local no-kill cat rescue group located in Middletown, CT) and Vital Ground.
2005: Horizon Wings (a local raptor rescue and rehabilitation group located in Ashland, CT) and the ASPCA of Louisiana (to help with the animals caught in the disastrous hurricane, Katrina).
2006: EARS (Endangered Animal Rescue Sanctuary): EARS is a wondrous place where big cats of the world are being preserved with dignity. All of the animals who have found a home at EARS are here due to previous neglect, abuse, or some simply were no longer wanted. Also the sanctuary operates successfully with a dedicated all volunteer staff, making it possible for any and all donations to go directly to the animals. The second charity supported this year was Retired Greyhounds as Pets of Connecticut, Inc (REGAP). REGAP is a non-profit organization devoted to educating the public about the joys of greyhounds as companion animals and finding responsible, caring homes for as many retired racing greyhounds as possible.
2007: The Moonridge Animal Park in Big Bear, CA is a zoological facility and fully licensed, designated care and rehabilitation center for injured or confiscated animals. They treat and release approximately 200 injured animals every year. Forced to relocate by an expiring land lease, the 2.5-acre Park is racing against time to secure a new home-site, which is why donations and support are vital. Please help them secure a permanent home where every Moonridge Animal Park inhabitant can live out its days.
2008: New Leash On Life,a no-kill shelter that rescues unwanted/abandoned animals and places them in loving homes and Pays De L'ours, a group in France who is fighting to save the Pyrenees Brown Bear from extinction. There are only 20 bears left, and it's vital we act to restore their numbers or we will lose them forever. (Website is only in French.)
2009-2012: The American War Dog Association is working to bring proper recognition to the working dogs of the US military-past, present, and future-including the construction of a national monument to honor their service.
Our annual fundraising event also involves the following entertainments for our attendees of all ages:
