About the Area
^ Back to the top ^
Area Map (Google)The area around the hotel is rich with many restaurants and businesses to suit most all of our attendees. Below is a list of some of the major ones. However, not every business or restaurant will be included since some are small and may not still be in business as of FurFright weekend. We encourage you to take a drive through the area or search online to scout out your favorite places to eat and shop.
NOTE:For your reference, the hotel is located on the NORTH side of Route 372, just to the EAST of I-91 and a few miles WEST of Routes 3 and 9. Route 372 runs EAST-WEST. Routes 3 and 9 run NORTH-SOUTH.
Con Chairs' Choice Restaurant Destinations
Mikado Japanese RestaurantTake a LEFT out of the Crowne Plaza. Turn RIGHT onto Route 9 South. Go to the second signal on Route 9 and bear RIGHT onto Washington Ave/Route 66. Turn LEFT into the parking lot on the left. Mikado's entrance is on the parking lot (i.e. back) side of the building. (Sorry, but the restaurant has a long stairway to get inside so it is NOT handicap accessible. However, they do also have take-out.)
Mikado does close for a short period in the afternoon on weekdays. The prices are a little higher here, but the salad dressing is to die for.
Japanica II
Take a LEFT out of the Crowne Plaza. Turn RIGHT onto Route 9 South. Go to the second signal on Route 9 and bear RIGHT onto Washington Ave/Route 66. Follow Washington Avenue until you see Home Depot on the left and Staples on the right. Turn RIGHT into the Staples parking lot. Japanica II is at the back of the shopping center.
Japanica is open continuously throughout the day. The prices are lower here than at Mikado, and the miso soup is a little better.
Alternate route to Washington Ave/Route 66: Turn LEFT out of the Crowne Plaza and Turn RIGHT onto Route 3. Follow Route 3 until it intersects with Washington Ave/Route 66 and turn RIGHT onto Washington Ave/Route 66.
It's Only Natural Restaurant (vegetarian/vegan)
Follow the same directions listed above for Mikado.
ION has a wonderful selection of natural food. Not a vegetarian or vegan? No problem. We have taken confirmed carnivores to ION and they've gone away full. We particularly recommend the sweet potato fries. The nachos are scrumptious too! Most, if not all dishes come with soy or dairy options, where valid.
Other places to go
Take a RIGHT out of the Crowne Plaza (WEST on Route 372):
Just before the I-91 overpass is a convenience store and a gas station on the south side of Route 372.
On the other side of the overpass, you will find the following: Super 8 Motel, Courtyard Marriott, Chilis, Oyama (Japanese), Baci Grill, Burger King, Dunkin Donuts, McDonald's, Luna Pizza, Cromwell Diner (24-hour diner), Walmart, and a gas station.
Take a LEFT out of the Crowne Plaza (EAST on Route 372):
Lowes Home Improvement, Wooster St Pizza, Dunkin Donuts, Friendly's, CVS Pharmacy, Walgreen’s Pharmacy, Quiznos, Wendy's, Stop 'n' Shop (supermarket), Xpect Discounts, Kmart, Dairy Queen Chill and Grill, No Anchovies Pizza, Subway, Ruby Tuesday, and numerous gas stations with convenience stores.
If you turn RIGHT onto Route 3 from 372 EAST:
UPS Store, 99 Restaurant, Puerta Vallarta (Mexican), KFC, McDonalds, Mortensen's Ice Cream, Taco Bell, Dunkin Donuts
If you want to venture a little farther afield, try either the Berlin Turnpike (Route 15) or Silas Deane Highway (Route 99). To get to Route 15, take 372 WEST and then follow the signs for Route 15 NORTH (mini-golf is South) OR take I-91 NORTH to 9 NORTH to Exit 21. At the end of the exit, turn RIGHT onto 372 and then RIGHT again at the signal onto Route 15. To get to Route 99, take I-91 NORTH to Exit 24.
The 24-hour CVS Pharmacy is located NORTH of the hotel. Take I-91 NORTH to Exit 24. At the end of the exit, bear RIGHT. The pharmacy is located about a mile up the road.
