Submit Written Work

The deadline for written submissions is: August 31st

Written work with a furry AND Halloween (or Samhain)/horror/macabre theme (ranging from funny, scary, or anything in between) will have preference over furry prose or poetry of any other theme. Moderate violence and gore is acceptable (it IS Halloween after all! *grins*), but please keep your work free of graphic sexual situations.

Any written work submitted to FurFright is published to support and publicize the convention and the writer, not for the financial benefit of any other individual (including the convention staff and directors) or any for-profit company. FurFright does not claim exclusive rights over the written material (the author may republish their work at any time).

Submitting written work is not a guarantee of publication. We receive many submissions and just don't have enough space to publish everything we receive.

Keep in Mind

Written work may be submitted via electronic means (i.e. email or attached file) or on CD-R.

Written work must have a word count of 1000 or LESS. If you have any questions, please contact the editor.

The use of copyrighted characters (outside of the author's own) or their likenesses is prohibited without the written consent of the original creator. Without written permission, the written work will not be published.

When in doubt, ask the editor! That's what she's there for! *smiles*

First Page

Please include the following information on the first page of your written work:

  1. Real name
  2. Pseudonym (if any)
  3. Email address
  4. Word count (written works must be under 1000 words)
  5. Copyright information as you want it to read (i.e. © Pseudonym 2004 OR © Real Name 2004)
  6. Title
  7. Author's name (as you want it published)

Subject Matter

Please keep written works to a PG-13 rating. No graphic descriptions of sexual encounters or genitalia. Violence in the horror genre is common, but please keep the PG-13 rating in mind. Implications can sometimes involve the reader's imagination more than graphic description. However, if you have any questions, please write the scene and then send it in an email to the editor to ask their opinion.

Format Guidelines

Language

American or British English

File Format

RTF or Word (.doc) file

Font size

Arial 10

Line spacing

Single

Paragraph spacing

No tabs; double-space between paragraphs (Hit Enter twice at the end of the previous paragraph before starting the next paragraph. Do NOT just format the document to add extra spacing between each paragraph!)

Alignment

Left margin (even the title)

Use of special characters

If you use special characters within your written work (letters with special marks above or through them or special symbols), please make a note of it in your submission letter (include the word in plain type and describe which symbol is being used and where). This way the editor can check back with you to make sure that the correct symbol is being used at the time of publication.

Language

Again, please keep written works to a PG-13 rating. Of course--unless you're trying to be funny--we are not asking that your characters use curse-words like "Egads!" or "Gadzooks!", but please keep the swearing to a minimal level or just to punctuate a scene. Please be open to working with the editor on your language use.
